HI, I’m Jake
I am a freelance photographer and filmmaker, based in Rutland, UK, specialising in branding photography for individuals and small and medium-sized businesses.
My journey into photography and filmmaking has been anything but traditional. I started my career in the visual effects industry, working as a 3D artist on some of the biggest Hollywood films, high-end TV series, and commercial projects. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with leading studios in London, contributing to projects that have appeared on cinema screens and streaming platforms worldwide. While working in VFX, I developed an acute attention to detail, an understanding of composition, and a deep appreciation for visual storytelling—all of which now influence my approach to photography and filmmaking.
Despite my love for visual effects, I always felt drawn to working more closely with people and brands, helping them to tell their own unique stories through imagery. This passion led me to start my own freelance business, where I now focus on branding photography and video content that helps businesses showcase their personality, values, and expertise. Whether it's capturing behind-the-scenes moments, producing dynamic headshots, or creating engaging content for social media and websites, I work closely with my clients to bring their vision to life.
I studied Media Production at The University of Lincoln, knowing that I wanted to be involved in creative projects, even if I wasn’t sure exactly what job I wanted.
During my studies, I discovered 3D and CGI, and I quickly realised that it was an exciting way to contribute to large-scale projects—especially the kind that would eventually put my name in the credits at the cinema. After graduating, I refined my skills and portfolio by studying 3D for Visual Effects at Escape Studios in London, a renowned training school for VFX. This led to my first industry job at The Mill, where I worked on TV shows like Doctor Who and Primeval. It didn’t take long to realise that working in visual effects was both incredibly challenging and hugely rewarding—there’s nothing quite like seeing your work appear on screen.
From there, I landed my first film credit on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides—and let’s be honest, there aren’t many film franchises that make for a cooler first credit.
Over the years, I had the opportunity to work on a range of film, TV, and commercial projects, with highlights including Kingsman: The Secret Service and high-profile Nike campaigns.
